The BV girls ran out at the lodge on a Sunny Sunday afternoon with one job in hand, to return to winning ways.
The game started with us receiving, with the sun in our eyes and resulted in an early knock on. The first scrum cemented that this was going to be no walk in the park. With strong scrums and big hits early. Resulting in BV losing their fly-half early on to a concussion. After some moving around the game continued and the girls pushed into the OS half, with some strong running and great support from the BV girls, resulting in BV opening the scoring with an unconverted try.
A great take from the kick off saw BV return to the OS half but another injury meant the BV had to make more changes and the maturity of the girls to move positions turned out to be a winning factor and after some good pressure a well worked try was scored in the corner, again unfortunately, unconverted.
From the restart OS put good pressure on BV and forcing errors meant that it allowed OS to receive a penalty 15 yards from the BV line. Some quick thinking by OS from a quick penalty, and BV’s inability to get back and turn and face, allowed OS to run in their first try followed by a successful conversion.
Again, after some good pressure the BV girls secured another converted try. The ball was lost from the restart and a scrum to the opposition in their half. The OS scrum half decided to taxi and a big hit from BV flanker forced loose ball neatly picked up by BV took them up into the OS 22, some solid rucking and a great long pass to BV prop resulted in said prop gassing the OS winger on the outside and scoring once again in the corner to cement the half.
The second half started with OS wanting to make their mark and they quickly ran in an individual try from the ball receiver, through some very weak BV defence.
BV realising that weak defence is not an option pressed hard and again forced the error resulting in a scrum inside the OS’s half and a loose ball from the base of a scrum was picked up by BV 8 and some strong running and great hands from the backs came a well worked try in the opposite corner. Unconverted.
This then cemented the half, and OS realised it was now out of their grips but continued to attack and BV continued to press hard in defence, holding OS of our line for a few minutes, but the pressure was too much and OS knocked it on just short of the line. Some great work form all saw us push back up into OS 22 with another good run from our prop on the outside.
OS tried hard to get out of their half and although BV defended well, they managed to sneak in one more unconverted try.
Both teams attacked and defended well to finish the game at 32-19 to BV
Credit must go to both teams of girls, and this was remarked on by both teams of coaching staff, spectators and the referee how pleasant and clean game it was.
We wish OS all the best for the rest of the season and hopefully we might be able to arrange a friendly earlier on in the New Year.
BASS next week at Corkscrew Hill to close this half of the season.
