With the Valley Second team first league match cancelled they played host to Old Colfeians 3rd's in a last minute friendly:
The game got under way with both teams looking redy to make full use of the friendly.
After 7mins of play the game was stopped due to a neck injury that seemed pretty serious the old Colfs player named Hew ( very long surname to placed here) Was taken to hospital to be further assessed. We wish him all the best and sincerely hope all is well.
It was Old Colf's who would be the first to cross over the try line after some evenly matched play. Catching the Valley seconds out of position they soon made it 10-0 and that concluded the first half.
It would be Valley who came out in the second Half with an opportunity from with in their own half that saw James King with a clever kick down field and followed up by Fraser Wright who made a gutsy tackle taking out the play by the ankles causing the Old Colfs Full back to loose control of the ball, who else but Ollie Tite would be there to pick it up and carry the ball 5 metre shy of the try line before off loading to Fraser who was there in support to finish off the play started by his tackle with a well deserved try. J King converted the try.
10-7 to Old Colfs.
Old Colfs were not going to take that and they came out guns blazing with another try! 15-7.
With some powerful and gutsy play saw Peter Timon burst through bouncing off 6 defenders carrying the ball 35.m up the field before finally being tackled unfortunately his pace left him alone and the ball was turned over. It was sad to see Peter recieve a yellow card after that for killing the ball and that was the end of Pete's running for man if the match.
Valley did however win the ball back and again with powerful ball carrying by Gavin Blackston, Andy Meredith, Mike Blackston and Nick Blanchard saw valley cross the try line and who else but Mike Blackston finishing off with a powerful try.
This brought the score line to 15-14.
Old Colfs who were under pressure from the mighty Valley Pack managed to turn over possession in open play with a clever kick put them back on the score board with a 20- 14 lead.
Valley never backed down and saw the remaining 6 mins camped with in striking distance of the try line. Unfortunately opportunities were missed and the clock ran down bringing an end to the game.
Tries Mike Blackston, Fraser
Conversions James King 2 out of 2.
MOM : Dan Winks very high work rate , he was every where he needed to be and some more.
Hammer : Fraser not often do we see such a low tackle well done.
DOD: Peter Timon from man of the match performance to Yellow carded .Unfortunate but it is justified a captain should know better
