We arrived to be told by the opposition coach that the team we were to face were, in the main, from their first team last season having had an influx of players of a higher standard from another club. He said that these guys felt that they had a point to prove, and that is what they did.
They were superior in their passing accuracy, their wide pace, the ability to let the ball do the work. Their rucking was producing quick ball which they utilised efficiently.
However, the score does not reflect the effort, the resilience and all round team performance from the Dartford team. We certainly had parity in the set piece, we did not lose a scrummage or a line out. They had difficulty in dealing with our driving play, indeed, on another day we may well see cards being issued for pulling down.
I asked the questions in the team huddle post game, did we compete, most certainly, did we take our available options when they presented themselves, most certainly, did we leave anything out on the pitch, most certainly not !!
It would be useful not to dwell on the reasons why we were against such a team, rather take our positives, and there were many, then emulate what we found difficult to cope with.
Apart from the on field positives, it’s promising to see that we had as many if not more supporters than the home side-line. We thank you for your support and look forward to the coming weekend where we will aim to give the home crowd at The Lodge an improved performance and result against Canterbury 3s
